Barclays announces Midhurst branch closure

The North Street branch will close on July 23, Barclays has announced. Staff working at the Midhurst bank will be offered alternative roles in the bank as the company said it does 'not intend to make anyone redundant'.
Nearby branches include The Square, Petersfield and East Street, Chichester.

Hide AdA Barclays spokesperson said: “The decision to close a branch is never an easy one. However, customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking. As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.
“This is reflected at the Midhurst branch where there has been a 33 per cent reduction in counter transactions in the two years to March 2020. In addition, almost nine out of ten of our customers (89 per cent) at the branch are also using different ways to bank.
“We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required.”
Barclays added that is will be proactively engaging with local businesses and the wider community to discuss the alternative ways for customers to undertake their banking locally and will be offering virtual ‘tea and teach’ sessions for customers wishing to explore digital banking and other alternatives to branch based banking.
