The plan for a change of use at the former Jacques Vert clothing store at number 70 follows an unsuccessful bid for permission to re-fit a shop in South Street last year.
At the time, the Caffè Nero in East Street confirmed it would stay open if another store were to be given permission.

Hide AdChichester District Council refused the South Street application on the basis it would result in a loss of retail space and cause unnecessary harm to the character of the listed building.
Documents for the North Street shop plans are for the ground floor only for mixed retail and restaurant use.
A separate application would be made for building alterations and listed building consent.
The proposal reads: “Given the character of the premises, this part of Chichester and that Caffè Nero will attract around 3000 customers per week, we would contend this mixed use adds significantly to the attractiveness of this part of the town.”
