Pells Pool in Lewes has ‘brilliant’ first weekend of opening

The outdoor swimming pool which is managed by Pells Pool Community Association on behalf of Lewes Town Council was officially opened by town mayor councillor John Lamb.
Mr Lamb enjoyed the first dip – a long-standing tradition at Pells – before the pool was opened to swimmers.

Hide AdRob Read, of Pells Pool Community Association, told the Express: “We launched our tickets on Thursday last week at 3pm and we opened up on Saturday for the first day of swimming.
“We have now sold out all tickets for the first week and 50 to 60 per cent of tickets for next week – the response has been brilliant.
“We had never done online booking before and it has gone really well.
“Phil Ransley, the pool manager, was also really impressed with how people behaved. They were responsible and there was social distancing.”

Hide AdMr Read said it was important for Pells to have family pool sessions on offer as well as lane swimming.
“Family sessions at Pells have been a significant part of growing up in Lewes,” he said.
“And the water temperature was great. We were worried that it wasn’t going to be sunny but the water was 20 degrees Celsius.”
