BREAKING: Appeal sees Newhaven man jailed for raping woman in her sleep
Samuel Warren was convicted of a single count of rape. He was originally given a sentence of two years’ imprisonment suspended for two years, with a requirement to complete 300 hours unpaid work.
Following an application by Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC MP, the Court of Appeal has today increased Warren’s sentence to two and a half years’ immediate imprisonment.

Hide AdSpeaking after the hearing today the Solicitor General said: “The impact on victims of rape and sexual assaults cannot be underestimated and it is essential these crimes are appropriately punished.
“Having considered the facts of this case, I felt that the sentence was unduly lenient and took the decision to refer it to the Court of Appeal.”
