There were also a few counts of burglary, an armed robbery and a third sentencing for historic sex offences. Here is a run down of some of the criminals jailed in September and the back end of August.
1. Trent Hutchinson, Newhaven
Trent Hutchinson, 17, was jailed for murder on September 18 after stabbing his friend, Colin 'Ollie' Wells, to death in an argument. Colin, 18, had been staying at Trent's house in Elphick Road, Newhaven, when on January 6 the pair got into a fight. Hutchinson stabbed Colin in the head and back and, despite the best efforts of Hutchinson's mum and paramedics, he died outside on the street. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison after what police called 'a sustained and deliberate attack'.
2. Billy Kent, St Leonards
Billy Kent, 20, of Wishing Tree Road in St Leonards, was jailed for three years on September 8 after burgling a house in Hastings. Police said a burglary was reported in Bexhill Road on June 29 in which an iPad, £30 cash and some tobacco had been stolen overnight. The kitchen window and drawers were open, front bins had been moved and Kent's fingerprints were found on the kitchen window.
3. Tyler Mighall, Shoreham
Tyler Mighall, 21, of Little High Street in Shoreham, was jailed for 20 months after crashing into parked cars while under the influence of drink and drugs. Mighall was spotted travelling at speed and on the wrong side of the road in Brighton Road, Lancing, at about 1.25am on February 23 and pursued by police officers. He turned off his headlights in an attempt to escape, but crashed through a traffic island and bollard before crashing into three parked vehicles. He was arrested after running from the scene and charged with drink-driving, drug-driving, dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop after a road traffic collision, driving with no insurance and possession of cannabis. He was jailed for 20 months, disqualified from driving for 46 months and ordered to pay a £146 victim surcharge.
4. Christopher Hussey, Brighton
Christopher Hussey was jailed after breaching an order that banned him from sitting on, riding or handling any bicycles in Brighton and Hove. Described as a 'prolific bike thief' by Sussex Police, the 38-year-old, of New Steine Mews in Brighton, was given the behaviour order on August 5. Since May 2019, Hussey had been convicted of 12 offences, mostly theft related, including four linked to stealing bikes. He was arrested and charged after a member of the public sent in a picture of him riding a mountain bike in St James' Street. He was jailed for 12 weeks on September 2.
