Goodwood prepares for Battle of Britain flypasts
On this day in 1940, the Luftwaffe launched its largest and most concentrated attack against London in the hope of drawing out the RAF into a battle of annihilation. Around 1,500 aircraft took part in the air battles which lasted until dusk. The action was the climax of the Battle of Britain.
Around 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes and Blenheims from across the UK and America are set to fly from the Goodwood Aerodrome to honour the courageous pilots who fought for our freedom all those years ago.

The first flight is set to depart at midday with four minute intervals separating each subsequent departure. The last section is due to take off at 12.36pm.
The Boultbee Flight Academy has warned that possible mechanical, weather or other operational issues could affect departure times as well as the routes flown.
Live information on departure times will be posted on the Boultbee Flight Academy Twitter page throughout the day.
