Hospitals in talks on services
The discussions coincide with yesterday's (Wednesday) official launch of the merged trust between St Richard's and Worthing and Southlands hospitals, the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust.
Over the next few months special groups will meet to devise how best to provide services across the sites. The Commissioning for Quality Groups (CQGs) will be made up of a broad spectrum of people including clinicians and general surgeons.

Hide AdGeneral and vascular surgeon at St Richard's Hospital, David Allen, said the aim of the groups was to deal with issues which Fit For the Future had tried to address. The groups' remit was to make sure services were provided safely and to set the standards for how those services were provided.
"At the same time, these groups are meeting, the merged trust is having clinical integration meetings to work out how services across both trusts can be run in an effective manner and also provide expertise across the trust so that as few people have to travel as possible for the majority of conditions."
The first meeting of the merged trust takes place today (Thursday) in Worthing.
