Level crossing failure in Battle
Network Rail, which has responsibility for maintaining the UK’s rail infrastructure, first sent engineers to the site at 10.30am yesterday (Sunday September 8), following reports the barriers had got stuck halfway down.
The barriers were lowered and raised manually whilst engineers tried to fix the fault.

But the problem returned this morning (Monday) and Network Rail engineers returned to Marley Lane.
The barriers were finally working properly by 12.50pm.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “We will keep an eye on the crossing and carry out more tests.
“If the barriers do fail, trains automatically stop running through the crossing.”
