Littlehampton shows the true meaning of Christmas – in a nutshell
More than 100 nativity scenes from around the globe, of varying shapes and sizes, included one nestling in a carved-out apple and others in hazel nut shells.
The display was once again held alongside the annual Christmas Bazaar at St Catherine’s Catholic Church, in Beach Road.

Hide AdHall manager Clare Muggridge helped to organise the event and was delighted with the number of cribs brought along by members of the parish.
“It was very good. Some people bring theirs along, year in, year out, and others, myself included, keep a look-out for new nativities to buy while we are travelling abroad.
“Others keep a look-out on the internet to see what they can find on there.
“It really is a unique event, at a time of year when, as a society, we tend to overlook what Christmas is all about sometimes, about the baby born in a manger,” said Clare.

Hide AdAttendance at the twin events was down this year, perhaps in the face of competition with other events in the area, but a total of approximately £1,200 was still raised for church funds, at a time when St Catherine’s needs to raise money to go towards the refurbishment of its church centre.
Stalls in the bazaar were run by parishioners, selling a wide range of goods including Christmas gifts.
On Sunday, there was a second chance for members of the congregation to take a look at the crib exhibition after the end of the parish mass.
