Mid Sussex pavements improved to help vulnerable residents
West Sussex Highways is about to complete the first year of its Even Better Pavements programme.
The county council targeted pavements and footways most used by vulnerable residents to protect them from slips, trips and falls.

Hide AdPavements which serve schools, clinics, hospitals and areas with high footfall, were prioritised.
It was the first year of a two-year programme worth £5m.
Key facts:
- £2 million was spent on the Even Better Pavements programme in 2016/17.
- 85 locations across Bognor Regis, Burgess Hill, Crawley, Haywards Heath, Horsham, Lancing and Selsey were improved.
- A further £3m will be spent in 2017/18.
West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Bob Lanzer, said: “We are delighted the first year of our programme has been delivered on time and on budget.

Hide Ad“Our investment has made pavements and footways in the locations we have been to smoother and safer.
“While this work has been on-going, behind the scenes we have been prioritising and organising the locations in the county to focus on in 2017/18.
“We shall be announcing this list shortly.”
