It has introduced a private sector leasing (PSL) scheme which aims to provide more homes for those in housing need.
Councillor Andrew MacNaughton, cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “Our Private Sector Leasing Scheme aims to provide more homes for those in housing need and excellent opportunities for local landlords to generate rental income.

“Under the Private Sector Leasing Scheme, we lease properties from private landlords for between two and five years.
“The scheme helps us to increase the number of local homes we have available for families in housing need and means we can offer a better quality of temporary accommodation.
“It’s an excellent scheme for landlords too because there’s no management fee, no commission to pay and they receive a guaranteed rental income for the duration of the contract, even if no one is living in the property.”

It says benefits include no management fees or commission to pay; guaranteed monthly income; being paid even though there is no one living in the property and the property being leased for a period of two and five years.
It adds: “Mid Sussex District Council is the ‘tenant’ and pays the rent’ property to be returned vacant and in same condition received, subject to wear and tear; you are not responsible for any legal action to regain possession of the property.”
