World of Words: ‘Home thoughts, from abroad’ is theme of short story competition
The theme for this year is ‘Home thoughts, from abroad’. This year’s festival falls during the 400th Anniversary of Steyning Grammar School, endowed by William Holland in 1614.
One of the few state boarding comprehensives in the country, it has students from around the world.

Hide AdSo, organisers are especially keen for the competition to have an international flavour.
The short story competition is being sponsored by Wilton Park and supported by The Steyning Book Shop.
Prizes will be awarded from three categories: best story by a young author (aged 16 to19), £100 prize; best story by an overseas resident visiting Britain, £250 prize and best story by a British resident, £250 prize.
In addition, three submissions will be marked for special commendation in the competition, with the writers getting £50 each.

Hide AdThe prize presentation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, during the festival, at a special lunch at Wiston House, hosted by Wilton Park. Submissions from young authors (16 to 19) and students are free.
The fee for entering the competition as an adult is £4 per story, or three stories for £10.
