World of Words: November poetry competition winner
A gilded cloud in a golden sky
One wintry day went scudding by,
It gathered gold from the rainbow’s end
Then headed North to meet a friend
Who lived in a cold land far away
With reindeer and an open sleigh.
The gold bought lots of gifts and toys
To bring delight to girls and boys.
On a freezing night, calm and still
A laden sleigh came over the hill
With the golden cloud by its side
So that Santa Claus could easily hide
From all the childish, prying eyes
That gazed towards the jet black skies.
This time the cloud was filled with snow
Which it scattered on the fields below,
Then it disappeared like a Will-o-the-Wisp
As Christmas dawned, cold and crisp.
So when you see a cloud of gold
Remember the tale that’s just been told,
Be good and kind, and full of cheer
Then the golden cloud will be back next year
