LETTER: Frightening ugly costumes

Why, when there is so much evil in this world, do they want to encourage this occultish behaviour - witches, demons, ghouls and ghosts?
The TV and radio advertise weeks before, shops dress their windows with frightful scenes, sell fashions that have fire hazard warnings on them and for what.

Hide AdIt all boils down to money; get the public to spend, children to badger their parents to buy rubbish and then they go out ‘trick or treating’. And now we have the clown situation, a more sinister theme. Where is love in all this celebration of death and the underworld?
When it comes to Christmas, what is advertised for weeks before the event? Buy, buy, buy.
If God hadn’t come to earth in the form of a little baby named Jesus, there would be no ‘christmas’ celebration. I put a small ‘c’ because it again represents an excuse to spend over and above people’s limits and puts a pressure on families that they could do without.
Jesus came to bring peace and forgiveness, love, and a way to have eternal life. He didn’t come to make life more difficult.

Hide AdYes it is good to get together with family and friends, but for some it is the loneliest time of the year. Yet which TV, radio or newspaper/magazine advertises the true meaning of Christmas?
Why don’t parents dress their children up in colourful costumes and go round with them wishing people a ‘Happy Christmas’ and not expect to be given something in return.
I don’t want to be a kill joy, but it seems that the more frightening and shocking one can be the better it is for everyone. There would be a much better reception from people if ‘Jesus was the Reason for the Season’.
Yours faithfully in Christ Jesus.
