A taxing issue
BENEFITS of most kinds are designed to provide an adequate standard of living, and facilities, for the poorer half of the population.
Instead of all these cuts, a greater rise in taxation would be more progressive.
In any case, it is difficult to calculate how free bus passes – for instance – are more important than basic welfare and housing.
