Box office draws
I feel this comment is very unfair, as attendance is bound to vary with the type of film being shown – something quite beyond the control of the cinema.
Not all films are massive blockbusters, and I am sure the multiplex cinema chains experience similar small audiences when a film with limited appeal is shown, but are much more able to sustain the loss of income.

Hide AdWhen films such as Slumdog Milionaire, The King’s Speech and The Exotic Marigold Hotel were shown at the Windmill, people were queueing outside the door, with full houses for every performance.
Ironically, the last film to be shown there, Quartet, again brought in more full houses, which I think proves my point.
Low audience numbers are not a symptom of lack of support for our well-loved and much-missed cinema. If a film is good, the audiences are there.
