Duke of Edinburgh success for Collyer’s
Collyer’s teams successfully achieved the award after completing a challenging 4 day, 50 mile final expedition in the Yorkshire Dales.
James Gordon, Head of Faculty for Business, Sport and Social Sciences explained: “The award requires participants to learn new skills, provide a voluntary service to the local community and complete a residential for a week. The students completed a difficult practice expedition over Easter and then a gruelling qualifying expedition in the summer.”

The expeditions were led by James Gordon ably assisted by Melanie Kavanagh. The full Duke of Edinburgh programme at Collyer’s is expertly managed by Head of BTEC Sport, Dan Watson.
James Gordon was delighted: “We are incredibly proud of these talented students. This is a fantastic achievement, particularly given the poor weather that they had to overcome. Also impressive is how these students managed to balance a demanding college life, part time work and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Brilliant stuff!”
Collyer’s Principal, Sally Bromley said: “These are exceptional students and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the exciting adventures of Team Scoobydoo and Team Enid! Massive thanks to James Gordon, Melanie Kavanagh and Dan Watson for continuing Collyer’s first class participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.”
