Is Littlehampton's sewerage system up to taking on more capacity?

I note from his records that in 1902 a Mr Joseph Robinson wrote to the Littlehampton News explaining that the town was in danger of flooding because the authorities had ignored advice about the limited capacity of the sewers, which could not cope with the large amounts of stormwater.
May I venture to suggest some 114 years later that we are reliant on Southern Water knowing exactly what the capacity of today’s arrangements are and what is required to be done before anything extra is plugged into them. When development proposals come forward it is important that the cost of the infrastructure required to accommodate additional demand is made clear at an early stage.

Perhaps that needs to change to before planning permission is granted so that councillors can be satisfied at an early stage about the arrangements. These are crucial matters as those who have suffered flooding in Littlehampton will testify.
