I am a 16 year old County Times reader and I, like many others, have been mystified by the article about the demised young deer in Billingshurst.
As a wildlife enthusiast, I would like to take this opportunity to express my view on the matter. Firstly I do believe that wild cats only inhabit Scotland, hence the name Scottish wild cat.
The only chance of there being one in Billingshurst is if it had escaped from a wildlife park or some anonymous person was secretly carrying out a breeding programme in the South of England somewhere.
Also the Scottish wildcat is only about the size of a domestic cat. In the article the predator was described as being about the size of a panther.
