when I cast my mind back I remember it still.
Trips with my mum and dad down to the sea,
my wet knitted swim-suit sagging down to my knees.
A really nice cake shop was not far away,
thirteen cakes for a shilling at the end of the day.
Bexhill boasted four cinemas, and twice a week
we paid one and ninepence for a really good seat.
The playground in Egerton Park was really fine
to ride on a rocking horse and imagine him mine.
I left school at 15 and worked in a shop
where the customer was madam and we were kept on the hop.
And now as a pensioner Bexhill’s for me
I’m home when I see the sign Bexhill-on-Sea.
