Earlier this year, I submitted a freedom of information request to the borough council and it transpires that the number of prosecutions of socially irresponsible dog owners in recent years is as follows:
2012 - 4
2013 - 1
2014 - 4
2015 - 0
All nine prosecutions were successful but the number of prosecutions is laughable given the problem caused by irresponsible dog owners.

Hide AdThese wretched people give our town - and responsible dog owners - a bad name. Some years ago the council launched a hard-hitting campaign against dog fouling and this was resulted in a temporary improvement, especially along the promenade.
It is time for another properly co-ordinated campaign which causes the dog owners, not the rest of us, to watch our step.
