The Duke of Edinburgh died peacefully aged 99 at Windsor Castle.Prince Philip visited Crawley at the opening of Queens Square in 1958 and again with the Queen in 2006.
And the Crawley MP tweeted his tribute after the news broke.

Hide AdHe said: "God bless HM Queen Elizabeth II at this sad time - Thank you HRH Duke of Edinburgh for your service to our United Kingdom and the Commonwealth over so many years."
Crawley Borough Council leader cllr Peter Lamb also tweeted. He said: "Sorry to hear about Prince Philip. Whatever people's thoughts on the Royal Family, his wartime service in the Navy was exemplary and worthy of universal respect."
Crawley Town Football Club tweeted: "Everyone at Crawley Town Football Club is deeply saddened by the recent news from Windsor Castle regarding the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh."
