Robertsbridge Bonfire fire-site under water

The Bonfire Society released this image on Thursday, which shows the extent of the flooding on the recreation ground.
But there was good news today with the Society announcing that the water had mostly drained away and that the bonfire celebrations were likely to go ahead.

Hide AdChairman Ria Paine said: “We have met and discussed the situation with the Parish Council and assessed the field situation. The water has mostly drained away now but the river is still incredibly high.
"I can confirm that as present our event will go ahead, but this can be subject to change if river levels rise again. Please adhere to any information or guidance our marshals give on the night, for your own safety.”
