Youth services revamp

YOUTH services in West Sussex are to be given a new look as West Sussex County Council focuses on the highest area of need in the face of a £2m cut to its budget for 2010-11.

This area will be given priority as the county council grapples with intense pressures. It was revealed at the latest meeting of the children and young people’s select committee that the county cabinet would provide an extra £1m for this year only, to allow for phased introduction of service changes.

A consultation has now begun, which will play a major part in the wide-ranging review of all services offered to young people. The county council has stressed that no final decisions have yet been taken but, the overall aim is to find the best way of creating an integrated youth support and development service.
