Organised by Littlehampton Town Council, the competition invited families to build the best sandcastle, before being judged by the mayor councillor Ian Buckland, Littlehampton Carnival’s Queen and Princesses, and Miss Sussex 2016 Victoria Smart.
Charlotte Thwaites, two, from Woking, won the under-five category, while the Cottage family won the over-five category with a sword.

Council events manager Sofia Chittenden said: “We want to increase tourism to the town and we have a lovely sandy beach so why not?”
David Kirton, 37, who is visiting from Harrogate, said: “My kids have done it for two years running, and it was the same time as we were coming down this year, so we thought we would give it another go. It has been really fun.”
Simon Pal, 45, of Grove Crescent, Littlehampton, added: “I had a day off so I wanted to bring the kids down for this. My wife brought them last year so now it’s my turn.”
