Hide AdToni Bradnum, cabinet member for recycling and waste, said: “Litter is a real blight on the whole country and I think anything we can do to discourage this ‘lob it out of the window’ attitude is to be welcomed.”
Anyone caught littering will have their fine reduced by £40 if they pay up within 14 days.
Mrs Bradnum added: “Some may think that’s quite a high figure but I think it’s a bit like getting a parking ticket or a speeding fine – it’s self-inflicted pain.”
She thanked members of the public who put in the time and effort to support the council’s street cleaning services by clearing up roadside litter.
