A West Sussex MP has been appointed as the UK’s net zero business champion by the Prime Minister.

Andrew Griffith, who represents Arundel and South Downs, will help support the country’s businesses in making credible plans to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The role is seen as crucial as the economy rebounds from the pandemic and with a year to go until the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

In his new role, Mr Griffith will work closely with Business Secretary and COP26 President Alok Sharma to support as many UK businesses as possible to commit to net zero targets.

Over the next year, Mr Griffith will play a vital role in harnessing the potential of British firms as they launch new products, attract new investment and create new jobs.

He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the UK’s Net Zero Business Champion. Locally here in West Sussex and nationally business has a central role to play in making a successful transition to a low carbon economy.

“The UK’s global leadership on climate change can open up new large and attractive sectors in which British businesses will be well placed to succeed.”
