Residents’ fury at ‘disgraceful’ Littlehampton road resurfacing
West Sussex County Council crews conducted resurfacing work in Connaught Road last week.
However, residents living in the street have been shocked by the job, with a large patch left unfinished and parts of the tarmac already chipping away, just days after completion.

Hide AdLittlehampton county councillor Ian Buckland has been inundated with calls from angry residents.
Mr Buckland said: “I have never seen such a shocking bit of work. It’s totally appalling.
“It’s actually worse than it was before the resurfacing work was done.”
He said the road was ‘uneven, lumpy and bumpy’, with parts looking like an ‘after thought’.

Hide AdDisabled Steve McKay, who lives in the road, said he was shocked by the work.
The 53-year-old who uses a wheelchair, said the resurfaced road was a hazard.
He said: “There are small ruts which could cause me to fall out of my chair. It’s a complete joke.”
Elm Grove also had similar issues after it was resurfaced this week.

Hide AdA spokesman for the county council said: “In no way should anyone consider what is currently on both roads as a finished job.
“There was a problem with the road surface mix that had been used, so the sub-contractor stopped work and left the site. With resurfacing works such as these, issues like this do sometimes crop up now and again.”
Contractors were due to complete the job yesterday (Wednesday, October 1) but it has been delayed after the resurfacing machine broke down.
