Stoolball: The Mixed played at Scorpions last Tuesday [15th] with the hosts batting first. Excellent fielding resulted in a run out in the 1st over with just 11 runs on the board and then in the 4th over Richard Apps [1-6] clean bowled Mark [15]. Another run out in the 5th over and a wicket for Melinda Mackay [1-4] aided with a catch by Keith Apps saw the hosts struggling on 46-4 and when JJ Boast[1-5] took a wicket in the next over helped with a catch from Richard it was 51-5. Tight bowling kept the hosts to singles before the 6th wicket went down to Graham Clark [1-13] as he held onto a catch from his own bowling while excellent fielding again resulted in 2 run out’s. Josh Lewis[1-8] took a catch from his bowling while Abigail Fifield [1-22] took the last wicket as the hosts finished on 101 all out. The reply was solid with 37 on the board before Melinda[5] was bowled and just 1 run later Josh[32] was caught. Abigail [4] went in the 4th over and Ian Kitson [14] was caught in the 5th over. The 6th over saw Claire Hatter [5] caught and then Penny Clark[3] was bowled in the next over but skipper Richard [18] pushed the score to 88 before he was caught. Sarah Clark [6] and Keith [20] took us past the hosts total before Sarah was caught and then a JJ [11] and Graham [0n.o.] finished our innings on 126 all out for a 25 run victory. Last Sunday[20th] the Mixed team played at Crowhurst Tournament with Scorpions our first opponents in a five over match. Ian Kitson [1-11] took a wicket with his 6th ball while Melinda Mackay[1-13] aided by a catch from Ian had our opponents reeling on 11-2 but a third wicket partnership of 55 between Jackie[27] and Pete [23n.o.] was broken when Josh Lewis[1-15] caught and bowled Jackie as they ended on 67-3. An opening partnership of 50 between Josh[40n.o.] and Sophie Turner[15] gave us the foundation for a 4 run win with Melinda [8n.o.]. Our next opponents were Brightling and batting first Josh [31] and Sophie[11] put on 48 before Josh was caught and two balls later Sophie was run out and then we lost wickets quickly with Ian [2], Melinda [5] failing to add much to the score and finally Keith Apps [1n.o.] and Claire Hatter [1n.o.] completed our innings on 60-4. Our bowling and fielding let us down as James[36] and Sarah[46] passed our total before Josh [1-12] bowled James and good fielding led to Sarah being run out in the next ball as Brightling won by 32 runs. Our last game was against Pett and when Kieth[1] was bowled on the 5th ball it did not look good but Melinda [36] and Ian [15] steadied the innings with a 44 run partnership before Sophie [2n.o.] and Josh [9n.o.] completed our innings on 71. Keith[1-10] aided by a catch from Sophie took the first wicket but a second wicket partnership of 52 between Sandra [35] and Mark [25n.o.] took the score to 59 before Mark was run out and good fielding led to another run out the next ball but Lynn[5n.o.] joined Sandra to give Pett a win by 1 run. The Mixed team are away to Hooe on Tuesday [29th] at 6.45p.m.
