Sussex buildings scoop top architecture awards
The shell-shaped bandstand on Littlehampton’s seafront and the Church of St Botolph, in Botolph near Steyning, were among the winners of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) South East Regional Awards announced last night (April 23).
Chosen from a shortlist of 16 projects across Sussex, Surrey and Kent, the nine triumphant schemes included the Chichester Festival Theatre, which scooped the sustainability award and was crowned the building of the year.

RIBA’s regional director James Robinson, said: “There was a fantastically high standard of entry to the RIBA Awards this year and we are very lucky in the south east to have the local ambition and design talent to be able to complete buildings of this quality. “From important civic and public buildings to private houses and the conservation of our valuable historic built environment – these award-winning architects have demonstrated the value of good design as well as the transformative effect it can have on the places where we live.”
