BINGO: The Friends of Willingdon Community School in Broad Road are organising a family bingo night from 7pm today, Friday, in the school. The cost is just £1 per card but do bring your own drink and nibbles. There are large cash prizes to be won. To guarantee your place please email [email protected] or just turn up on the night.
WANNOCK ARTISTS: The artists meet from 7pm to 9pm on the last Friday of the month at Wannock Village Hall. Today, Friday, there will be a demonstration by Richard Larkin in the style of Turner entitled Scenes From the Military Canal. He will be using acrylics, a popular choice which should also appeal to those who appreciate Turner’s work. The annual fee to become a member is £18. Hide AdMEETINGS: Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council will be holding an events meeting at 7pm on Monday at Willingdon Community School, followed by an amenities meeting at 7.30pm. Please ring 01323 489603 or 01323 489104 for further information. Meetings are open to the public.
TOM FITZPATRICK: Tom and his band will be entertaining customers at the British Queen at Willingdon Triangle from 8.30pm on Wednesday.
RACE NIGHT: There will be a charity horse race night at the British Queen on Friday February 5 starting at 8pm. There are nine races which are all screened. It is preferable to book but even if you don’t ‘own’ a horse you can sponsor one, a good way to advertise your business. Food is served at half-time and donations for the charity, which is Muscular Dystrophy, can be put into the collecting box.
COMEDY NIGHT: Another event being organised by the British Queen is a comedy night on Friday March 11. It will take place in the saloon bar. Doors are open from 7.45pm for a 9pm start. Tickets are £7 each and there are a limited number which are going fast. The compere is Miles Crawford and one of the comedians will be Britain’s Got Talent finalist Danny Posthill. The other comedians will be announced shortly. The public bar will still be open during normal opening hours.

Hide AdFLOWER CLUB: Willingdon Flower Club will be meeting at 1.45pm for a 2pm start at Willingdon Memorial Hall on Friday February 5. Two of the members Anne and Wendy will be giving a flower demonstration and there will also be a competition in which members bring along their own flower arrangement entitled A Valentine Gift. These will then be judged by the other members. There will be tea as usual and on this occasion a bingo session will be held for the rest of the afternoon. Meetings usually finish about 4.30pm. CONCERT: A church concert is being held at St Mary’s Church at 7.30pm on Monday February 8. The musical director is Michael Stumbles and taking part will be the church choir, soloists and instrumentalists in a wide range of varied items.
ASTRONOMY: Eastbourne Astronomical Society will be meeting at 7.30pm on Saturday February 6 at Willingdon Memorial Hall. There will be a talk entitled Quantum Mechanics in the Sky. For further information please consult the website.
STAR TREK: To commemorate 50 years since Star Trek first appeared on our television screens in 1966, Hailsham Old Pavilion Society (HOPS) is presenting a special screening of the original movie version of the hit series, Star Trek: The Motion Picture (now on Blu-ray), at The Pavilion, George Street, on Friday February 12 at £7.45pm (doors open at 7.15pm). Tickets cost £7 (£5.50 concessions and children) with 10 percent discount for HOPS members, and are available from The Pavilion Box Office (01323 841414) or online at www.pavilionhailsham.co.uk. Fancy dress is optional. So come and have a fun evening, and don’t miss a unique opportunity to see this film on the big screen. All proceeds go to HOPS for the upkeep of The Pavilion.
