The research follows the news that Premier League clubs could be allowed to continue using five substitutes next season and the debate whether this favours the bigger club.
Football Index has calculated how much each club paid their players simply to sit on the bench, and the findings highlight the incredible strength in depth possessed by the traditional ‘Big 6’ in comparison to the remainder of the league.
Interestingly, Manchester United’s Juan Mata is the Premier League player paid the most to sit on the bench this season, having earned over £5.34m.
