Crawley Town assistant manager Jimmy Dack was delighted the team produced a comfortable win against his former club Newport County after their disappointing defeat at Leyton Orient.

He was quick to praise the new players who have come in and rejuvenated the side.

Dack said: “After Saturday we wanted to draw a line under it as quick as we could.

“On Monday we had a team meeting, looked at one or two things, looked at each other in the eyes and said we let ourselves down on Saturday and the main word was reaction.

“We needed a reaction tonight and I thought we got that in abundance.”

Dack believed the six changes to the starting line-up was exactly what was needed for the team.

He said: “We needed to freshen it up. We know we’ve had a small squad all season and that’s something we needed to do.

“I thought young Lyle Della-Verde was excellent. Young Frankie Sutherland was brilliant in midfield.

“Dunney (Charles Dunne) drove down from Blackpool last night and you’ve got to give him credit for that - he didn’t put a foot today.

“It was great seeing Banj (Lanre Oyebanjo) back - he’s been out so long I’d forgotten he has that long throw. Making good decisions on the pitch and we have missed that experience.”

Dack praised newcomer Andy Bond who did well in central midfield in his third game since joining the club.

“Bondy’s an experienced campaigner. We’ve brought him in and you’d think he’d been here all season. That’s what you get with older players - you get less mistakes and they make better decisions.

“That’s not to see you don’t want young players but at time in the season you need an older head to settle down the group.

“Bondy has come in and is a great professional, wants to work everyday and is a pleasure to have around.

“This has been our fortress at home because we’ve been very much miss and hit away from home.
