Golfers drive away with county title
The Kent Street-based club was victorious in the Birchwood Motor Group Plate after beating Worthing GC 3-2 in the final at Singing Hills GC, Albourne.
Ray Smith (handicap 11) and Ben Pepper (15) won 4&3 against Mike McCrae (11) and Vernon Cook (17), while Paul Davis (9) and Kevin Galloway (14) triumphed 6&4 against Paul Newman (12) and Jim O’Keefe (18).

Hide AdAlan Bates (10) and Robin Gibbs (14) prevailed 3&2 against Brian Hooker (9) and Tony McKernan (17) in the bottom match to seal Sedlescombe’s victory.
Chris Aldridge (6) and Tony Aldridge (17) narrowly lost the top match 2&1 to Dave Gill (7) and Jason Harfield (13), while Alan McDonald (9) and Paul Greenaway (17) were pipped on the 18th by Matt Bates (10) and Nigel Buckland (16).
Sedlescombe previously saw off Slinfold 3½-1½ in the semi-finals having whitewashed Singing Hills 5-0 in the quarter-finals, beaten Lingfield 4-1 in round two and edged out West Hove 3-2 in round one.
A team of Sedlescombe ladies, meanwhile, achieved an excellent fourth place finish in the County President’s Trophy at Royal Eastbourne GC.

Hide AdIssy Horsley, Gilly Crawley and Wendy Leigh scored 73 points in an event where the best two of the three scores counted for scoring purposes. Some 48 clubs from around Sussex entered.
