Sussex trainer Menuisier targets big Newbury prize
Menuisier, who was born in France, trains at the famous Coombelands Racing Stables in Pulborough and has enjoyed tremendous success since setting up in Sussex.
The stable star of recent years has been Thundering Blue who famously enjoyed Group Two success in the York Stakes and a Group Three win at Bro Park, Sweden.

Hide AdHistory Writer runs in the same colours for owner Clive Washbourn and the five-year-old boasts a solid CV. He recorded an impressive success on heavy ground at Saint-Cloud in a Listed event towards the back-end of last year and has looked in need of his two starts this term, latterly when finishing down the field in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
The son of Canford Cliffs is a 25/1 shot for his Newbury assignment but looks a live each-way player in a wide-open event.
The market is headed by 9/4 shot Dream Of Dreams who finished second in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last time, whilst Threat (4/1) looks a likely player back over seven furlongs having disappointed in the July Cup.
Last year’s winner and top-weight Glorious Journey (15/2) also warrants a mention along with Pierre Lapin (10/1) who is better than he has shown so far this season for Roger Varian

Hide AdSussex handler Menuisier also has a fascinating runner at Newbury on Sunday in the shape of Shouldering, who is a 10/1 chance for the Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap (2.25pm) live on ITV. The daughter of Epaulette is actually a half-sister to Saturday’s runner History Writer and she impressed with an easy victory at Sandown on her latest start. She met plenty of trouble on that occasion, but powered home in the shape of a very smart filly. This contest demands more but she looks ultra-progressive and looks cracking each-way value.
Away from Menuisier’s weekend contenders, a couple of winners from this year’s Glorious Goodwood meeting are also back in action.
Ventura Diamond created a striking impression with an easy victory on the Sussex Downs in a maiden event and takes a step up in class and distance at Newmarket on Saturday in the Betway Fillies’ Nursery Handicap at 3.50pm. Trained by Richard Fahey, she cost 100,000gns and is capable of further improvement.
On Sunday, Godolphin’s Miss Jingles bids to continue her upward trajectory in the Listed Unibet St Hugh’s Fillies’ Stakes live on ITV Racing at 3.35pm at Newbury. The two-year-old was a gutsy winner over this trip at Glorious Goodwood and is another type who should improve with racing for a trainer currently enjoying a 26% strike-rate in the last two weeks.
