Gum bins introduced in Horsham town centre
The ‘Gumdrop’ bins will be taken away when full and their contents recycled into a range of different items such as tyres, toys and mobile phone covers.
Horsham District Council cabinet member for the environment, Andrew Baldwin, said: “With statistics revealing that it costs the government in the region of £150m per year to remove 3.5 billion pieces of chewing gum in the UK and Horsham District Council spending five hours a week removing chewing gum from the town centre streets at a cost of over £ 5,000 per year, I am really pleased that we are taking these positive steps towards reducing this form of litter.”
