GREETINGS: Have you had an interesting week? There are lots of concerts and talks during Rye Festival which I am enjoying. Maybe you are as well. Last Wednesday was the Autumnal Equinox, when the sun was overhead at the equator, but travelling south. And so our nights now become longer than the days. Oh dear. But last week end was good and sunny, enabling the grass to have another hair cut.

CHURCH NEWS: The service at 10.30 am this coming Sunday will be Parish Eucharist and also the Harvest Thanksgiving. The church is sure to be beautifully decorated, so do go in to have a look at the decorations. On Tuesday it will the be the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels. Two of the very important angels are Gabriel and Raphael, who now do not have their own days, but are incorporated with all the angels. It is also the season of Michaelmas, which is one of the Quarter Days. Country lore has it that it is unwise to go brambling (picking blackberries) after Michaelmas because the fruit turns sour.

HARVEST SUPPER: The Harvest Supper will be held on Friday 2nd October at 7 for 7.30 pm. Tickets are £5 each person, for a two course meal and a glass of wine. Please will you book early so that catering can be organised. Contact Christine Wheeler or Janet Pegg to book your tickets.

SEPTEMBER SCARECROWS: Sorry I put pressure on last week by telling you that you had only a day left to vote for your favourite scarecrow. That was wrong, BUT it is true today !! Do go and look at all the photos and make your choice. The voting paper costs £1 and all proceeds go to help towards the New Pavilion Fund.

WEATHER: The Jet Stream is wandering about again. Last weekend was fine and sunny because it had pottered off north of Scotland allowing high pressure to dominate the weather. Now it is drifting south again, bringing the low pressure systems in from the Atlantic.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this coming Sunday will be played by Titus, giving you Friendly Folk. There will be a Quiz on Wednesday evening from 8.30 pm in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice. Genuphobia is the fear of what part of the body? Look it up !! It was a lovely fine day for the team setting out to cycle 106.6 km last Sunday. In fact, it might have been a tad warm and no doubt there was the occasional pub on the way the slake the thirst.

LOTTERY DRAW: The New Pavilion Lottery Draw for September was made by Janet Pegg at the Quiz in the Memorial Hall last Saturday. The winners were ; 1st, £50 Daniel Chapman : 2nd, £25 Wendy Wall; 3rd, £15 Yvonne Bellhouse: 4th, £10 Mike Beaufort; 5th, £5 Rosi Hunter; 6th, £5 John Cranage. Thanks to everyone for their continued support.
