Say what you like about Helena Croft, and obviously David Shipton (WSCT 11.06.15) finds that hard, but the fact is on May 7th over 1,000 Henfield voters showed a willingness to accept her as one of our District Council representatives. So, no ‘unprecedented act of rejecting’ Helena here !

I appreciate that Mr Shipton (a relation to our revered Ed-in-chief ?) has longheld grievances against a number of our local councillors - but why so vociferous against Helena? And to recommend reading Dale Carnegie ‘How to win friends and influence people’ appeared simply too tongue-in-cheek for me.

However, I note Dale Carnegie wrote his book in the aftermath of his own failure and great personal pain - he divorced in 1931 . . . so maybe there’s still hope for lesser mortals like us? To quote him directly: ‘Any fool can criticise, complain, and condemn - and most fools do. But it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving.’
