Duke of Edinburgh tributes: Cowdray polo, Sussex cricket and football officials express sadness
Prince Philip's death, at the age of 99, was announced by The Queen earlier today and Sussex CCC have been quick to pay tribute.
The Duke often visited Cowdray Park in Midhurst to play and watch polo.

Hide AdThe polo club tweeted: "Our condolences go out to The Royal Family today with the news of the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh June 1921 to April 2021. We hold very fond memories of his time spent at Cowdray Park Polo Club over the years. #PrincePhilip"
A tweet from Sussex's women's and girls section said: "We are saddened to hear the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh. Our women's squad were honoured to receive the County Championship trophy six times from Prince Philip. Our thoughts are with all of the Royal Family at this sad time."
Sussex themselves tweeted: "Everyone at Sussex Cricket is saddened to hear of the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Our thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family at this sad time."
Two minutes' silence was held before the start of the afternoon session of Sussex's county championship match at Old Trafford.

Hide AdGoodwood Racecourse was another sporting organisation to pay tribute on Twitter. Its statement said: "Our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen & the Royal Family, after the death of Prince Philip aged 99 today."
Football has also been paying its respects with the Isthmian League issuing this statement: "The Pitching In Isthmian League would like to send its deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family on the passing of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"Prince Philip had a keen interest in sport, including our national game, and spent three years as President of the Football Association. He was also President of the National Playing Fields Association, these days known as Fields In Trust, and during his tenure he dedicated a great deal of time to raising money to give children in urban areas green space in which to exercise.
"Across his 64-year tenure the number of green spaces protected with Fields in Trust grew from 430, covering around 1,300 hectares, to over 2,000, covering nearly 12,000 hectares.
"He presented many trophies to many footballers over the years... his long contribution to our public life will forever be remembered, with gratitude and affection."
