Both races have over the years given significant clues to the Investec Derby and Oaks in June at Epsom. Last year, the Ed Dunlop-trained Snow Fairy won the listed contest the Height of Fashion in great style and went on to win The Oaks by a neck. She has subsequently gone on to more success abroad in Japan and Hong Kong and has won nearly £2m in prize money. The Godolphin-owned Rewilding won the listed Cocked Hat Stakes and went on to to finish a very creditable third in The Derby and has been another that has had serious success abroad, winning the Sheema Classic over in Dubai in March. This year the entries for the Cocked Hat Stakes look good, with Godolphin having another classy contender runner Badeel, currently 66/1 for the Derby, as well as the Henry Cecil-trained Picture Editor, who also holds a Derby entry and is priced at 40/1. Entries also include two of John Gosden’s runners: Masked Marvel, who holds both a Derby and Royal Ascot King Edward VII entry - for the Derby he is currently priced at 66/1 - and Nambian King, who also holds an entry to the group two contest at Royal Ascot. The Height of Fashion Stakes looks equally as competitive with two in the race holding Oaks entries. These include Date with Destiny, who is quoted at 66/1 for the Oaks. The going has been reported by Seamus Buckley, clerk of the course, as good, good to Firm in places on the round course. The first race gets under way at 2pm and the last at 5.30pm.
